WWE Friday Night Smackdown 3/19/2021

They had an ROH preview before this show. I'll be covering that show.

Edge vs Jey Uso is tonight. The winner becomes the ringside enforcer for Roman/Daniel Bryan at Fastlane.

We start the show off with Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair arguing. Sasha blames their issues on Reginald. She says she's more worried about Nia though and Bianca tells her she won't come to save her tonight. Sasha said she didn't ask her to save her.

Smackdown Women's Championship - Sasha Banks (c) vs Nia Jax with Shayna Baszler

Reginald came up with this idea and Adam Pearce went along with it. Reginald is not out here tonight though even though he probably should be.

Sasha baseball slides Shayna outside to start then stomps Nia in the corner. She then does a facewash style meteora. Nia gorilla presses her and drops her, then drops an elbow on her. Nia body blocks her and samoan drops her for 2. Bianca Belair comes out even though she said she wouldn't. She cheers on Sasha as we go to break.

Back from break and Sasha takes a spinning side slam. Nia picks her up for the stretch muffler and pendulum's her face into the 2nd buckle. Nia misses a butt drop and takes a meteora from behind. Sasha hits a nice DDT while hanging off Nia. Shayna and Bianca get into it and Shayna accidentally kicks Nia. Sasha then pins Nia as Bianca beats off Shayna. This really wasn't bad for a big vs small match but I didn't get the Bianca stuff at all.

Edge does an interview. He is having his first Smackdown match in over a decade tonight. He said he beat Taker for the title on this show but also gave up the title on this show. Edge says Daniel Bryan needs to get a fair shake at Fastlane and he forgives him for the running knee shot last week. Edge says he thinks Jey Uso can be a great talent but not until he stops following around Roman.

Nia blames Shayna for her loss tonight, fairly. She said if Shayna blows it on Sunday, costing them the tag titles, she said she is coming for her. Shayna apologizes but Nia isn't interested and asks what will Shayna do about it? Shayna says she will ask for a match with Bianca and kick her head off.

Seth Rollins talks in the ring. He's still talking about people walking away from his announcement weeks ago. Seth said Cesaro is jealous of him because he is a Wrestlemania main eventer and Cesaro is a failure. Seth was put in the giant swing by Cesaro last week and said he will never be disrespected by him again like that. He called Cesaro a waste of potential then Nakamura came out.

Nakamaura came in, took his mic and told him to shut up. Then he spin kicked him out. Seth came back in and took an STO and a kinshasa.

They announce Eric Bischoff for the Hall of Fame.

The Street Profits vs Rey Mysterio and Dominic Mysterio

Ziggler and Roode are on commentary here. Rey dropkicks Ford. Ford tags out and gets backdrop backflipped onto Rey. Dominic hurricanrana's Dawkins off the 2nd rope then takes a hard lariat from Ford and a backdrop. Dom then hurricanrana's Dawkins for the win after a failed Street Profits double team in a very quick match.

Otis and Chad Gable then came out. Chad said this victory shouldn't put Rey and son over him and Otis for a tag title shot. Otis and Gable look the other way and get dropkciked out then Dominic does a nice springboard onto both as we go to break.

 

Dominic Mysterio and Rey Mysterio vs Otis and Chad Gable

This was made during the break. The Street Profits are now at the commentator's table too. Rey hits la silla from the top on Chad then 619's him. Rey gets crotched and suplexed, then Otis hits a diving headbutt. Otis slams Rey twice hard and hits a strong double axe handle to the chest.

Otis misses a slam and Rey tags out. Dom makes the hot tag and hurricanrana's. Dom gets thrown onto the 2nd buckle and comes back with a tornado ddt. Otis throws Rey into the rails outside and Dom gets his 619 on Chad blocked. Chad hits a great chaos theory rolling german suplex then Otis hits a 2nd rope splash on DOm for the win. This was fun for being a short throwaway. Otis' offense was very good here.

The Profits, Roode/Ziggler and Otis/Chad argue outside.

Sami talks to his cameramen in the back and Kevin Owens interrupts. Kevin isn't sure if he wants to be in Sami's documentary. Kevin said it seems Sami is twisting reality into his own story. Sami said this isn't his fault and people are doing things to him. Kevin wants to know who exactly is doing these things to him. He asks Kevin to come out during his match and will drop this idea if Kevin doesn't see anything suspicious.

Daniel Bryan comes out. He is excited for Edge's match tonight. He said he knows Jey will interfere in his match with Roman if he wins tonight. He said Edge might also do something because he wants Roman at Mania. He says Edge doesn't want to face him. DB says Edge thinks he can beat Roman, but he knows he can beat Roman.

Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman then come out. He says DB doesn't have a chance at tapping him out and has a better chance of shooting lighting out of his butt or growing wings and flying like a bird. Roman said he has never been tapped out(I'm sure that's a lie). He said he'd rather lose his arm or die in the ring than tap out to DB. DB says everyone thinks they are invinicible until they aren't.

DB says he isn't just going to make him quit, but he will break him of his beliefs and delusions. He says he is beating him at Fastlane.

 

They do a mock package for Corbin vs Zayn. They call it "the least anticipated match in Smackdown history" and say it's a match "no one asked for". Man did they bury this one.

Sami Zayn vs King Corbin

Kevin Owens is at the booth. Corbin lariats Zayn then mounts and pounds him. Corbin spears the post and Zayn puts his feet on the ropes for the roll-up but gets caught. Corbin hits end of days as Zayn argues with the ref and wins it in a short one.

Owens said he did not see anything suspicious here and said it had great officiating. Sami goes up to Owens and asked if he saw this and Owens said the ref made the right call. Sami says "I can't believe my ears" and he flips on Kevin. Sami then facekicks Owens out of nowhere calling him blind. Well, I guess it's that time of the year again when they feud.

Seth Rollins vs Shinsuke Nakamura is announced for Fastlane.

We have an exclusive interview with Big E and Apollo Crews. E said they can never settle their differences. E said Apollo should enjoy his last two days before Fastlane as his future is looking dark. Crews says this remains him of an old Nigerian story. He says if you fill your mouth with a razor, you will spit blood. He said he is going to crack his face and he will see the Nigerian warrior within him. E then leaves and said he isn't waiting until Sunday. He steals a golf cart and chases after Apollo. They fight in the back and Crews takes a trash can to the back. Crews gets thrown into a closet and the wall. E rips the shirt off him and officials come to break it up. Crews gets in the golf cart and drives off. Apollo's new character sucks and getting beaten by Big E here didn't help.

Bianca Belair with Sasha Banks vs Shayna Baszler with Nia Jax

Sasha leaves to start this. Bianca gets thrown out and Nia passes up an easy free shot on her. Nia then walks away from the ring which distracts Shayna. Natalya and Tamina then come in and beat up both girls, as they think they should be getting a women's tag title shot. Shayna gets thrown over the announcer's table. Tamina superkicks Bianca then spinning sideslams her. This was another short waste of time.

Winner is the Special Enforcer at Fastlane - Edge vs Jey Uso

Daniel Bryan is on commentary. Edge hits a running knee lift. They go ouside and Edge is rammed into the steps. Jey then tope's Edge into the table. We then go to break and return. Edge gets hung over the top rope then forearmed to the floor. Jey works his ribs and runs them under the bottom rope into the post. Jey then stretches him against the post. DB brings up how Jey always helps out Roman, but Roman never helps out Jey, as Roman isn't here.

Jey kicks the ribs and they collide in mid-air with crossbodies. Edge then starts targeting Jey's shoulder with a flying knee off the buckles on it. Edge hurricanrana's Jey off the top which is one of the first times I've seen him do that. Edge hits his lifting ddt and goes for a spear but takes a superkick. Jey then splashes him from the top for 2.

Edge throws Jey down by his arm and then spears him to win. This was a fun little tv match with smart work by both guys. My only gripe is that I think we missed the beginning of the limb work during the break.

Reigns then spears Edge. Why he waited to get involved here, I don't know. Reigns yells at Daniel Bryan and DB gets nailed by Uso. Uso rolls him in and Reigns spears DB.

Overall thoughts: SD lately has been all short matches and this wasn't much different. Lots of those tonight but the main was good. I have no idea why they buried Corbin vs Zayn so much.
